'Key to Longevity: Extreme Dieting'

'Key to Longevity: Extreme Dieting'

Life and death are in His Hands and it is He who determines and ordains the length of each human's life. Yet the pursuit for the 'elixir of eternal youth', anti-aging and longevity continues.

The quality of your conversations

Communication is about Conversations and Building Rapport

Alan Barker highlights an oft-neglected aspect that communication is about conversations and building rapport. His book is interesting, refreshing, simple and offers some 'aha' insights.

Alan's piece on rapport building is superb. (Books by Dale Carnegie, Les Giblin and Leil Lowndes too are nice. I am sure that most of you would have read books by these three authors).

Alan Barker's style of writing is such that you enjoy reading his book, and you also get the feeling that Alan is a caring and intelligent author. His writing style makes you feel that he cares for you and that he is keen to help you be more successful.

Surprisingly Alan Barker's super-duper book has a rather boring, dull and cliched title: 'Improve your communication skills'. But the book is different from and better than several books on this topic. It's not at all like: "Oh God, not another book on improving communication skills."

Alan has, in this book, also covered the topics of skills of persuasion, skills of presentation and writing, all in an excellent manner. It is better to purchase and give this book to each participant, rather than give a handout on each of these themes.

I recommend this book:

'Everyday Creativity' - a film by Dewitt Jones

'Everyday Creativity'
Everyday Creativity is a short film about how we all have the ability to make the ordinary, extraordinary. Creativity is often thought of as a phenomenon that is larger-than-life or out of the ordinary. Something reserved for a few "artistic" types.

In Everyday Creativity, long-time National Graphic photographer and Academy Award nominated director, Dewitt Jones, challenges such thinking and shows us that we have the ability to be more creative in everything we do. Using inspirational stories, memorable locations, and stunning examples of his work, Dewitt Jones shows us how an open mind, a solid understanding of our craft and profession, and the willingness to venture beyond what is expected, can change our ability to live more creatively everyday.

You will feel encouraged to apply his simple, yet powerful creativity techniques to all of your everyday challenges. And, without a doubt, your new solutions will mean the difference between just getting by and being successful.

For those keen to know more about this film:
Everyday, we are all presented with the opportunity to come up with the next solution, the next right answer to our problems. Our ability to search for new ideas can mean the difference between success and failure. Everyday Creativity teaches a surprising truth about creativity - that it's not a magical, mysterious occurrence, but a ready tool that enables you to look at the ordinary and see the ... extraordinary.

Everyone is creative. They just might not know it. This film reveals nine key concepts of creativity which can be used by anyone to open their creative mind. The messages in this beautiful and powerful video include:

  • Creativity is a matter of perspective
  • There's always more that one right answer
  • Don't be afraid to make mistakes
  • Learn to break the pattern
  • Re-frame problems into opportunities
  • You've really got to care
  • Train your technique

Joel Barker's 'The Power of Vision'

The best in its genre:
Joel Barker's 'The Power of Vision'
(distributed by StarThrower)

Assalaamu alaikum.

Joel Barker's 'The Power of Vision' is the best in its category. A virtual legend. Very professionally done.

Good for families and institutions too.

After this one, no other management training film appeals as much. Yes, Dewitt Jones' 'Everyday Creativity' too is good. But Joel Barker's 'The Power of Vision' far exceeds in terms of delight, learning and value.

The enterprise is exploration into God

The enterprise is exploration into God

From "A sleep of prisoners" by Christopher Fry

The human heart can go the lengths of God.
Dark and cold we may be,

but this Is no winter now.

The frozen misery of centuries breaks,
cracks, begins to move;
The thunder is the thunder of the floes,
The thaw, the flood, the upstart Spring.

Thank God our time is now

when wrong Comes up to face us till we take
The longest stride of soul men ever took.
Affairs are now soul size.

The enterprise is exploration into God.
Where are you making for?

It takes so many thousand years to wake,
But will you wake for pity's sake!

by Christopher Fry

Christopher Fry, "A Sleep of Prisoners"
(New York: Oxford Univeristy Press, 1951)

QUOTE:

This play was on Broadway in the early 50's, I think it's visionary, especially for that time. I saw it then and I know it helped wake me up to how activism can change your attitude to be optimistic in dark times - that was theMcCarthy era, a fearful time and very hard to describe except that the fears gripping people now seem similar. Actually they are parallel, and not the same. UNQUOTE
